A few months ago I put the fantastic Soom T track Dirty Money up on the blog. Today is the turn of the flipside to that 12” Survivor, which is arguably even better. Certainly I hear it DJed more often than its partner, so there you go…

The riddim is by Disrupt. The 12” was released by Jahtari and you can still pick it up for £6.69 from Norman Records.

In case you missed it, here’s the latest compilation from the ever-fantastic Jahtari Records. It’s the third volume of Jahtarian Dubbers and features many of my favourites, including Mungo’s Hifi, Soom T and El Fata, as well as the legendary Lee Scratch Perry.

You can pick it up on LP from Norman Records for £10.89.

You can also pick up Jahtarian Dubbers Vol.2 for £11.59. Listen to it on Spotify.

The first volume is a little harder to pick up. The four track 12” sometimes appears on Discogs.com.

I don’t really need to explain this one. It’s Soom T’s last record Ode to a Carrot. Released on Jahtari at the beginning of last year, it is utterly sublime. Listen to it, love it, then pick it up for £14.49 from Norman Records.

I’m still in two minds about the ability to embed entire records through Spotify, on one hand, it opens up an entire world of music and makes my life a bit easier, it also pays the artists for the streams. On the other hand, not everyone can access Spotify, and that means not everyone can enjoy the sweet digidub love.

Regardless, I’m going to start trying it and seeing how we go, it’s nice that I can start promoting entire records and the artists get paid, so I’m going to put records up in full every Friday and apologise lots to those of you who can’t access it.

First up is the latest release from Jahtari - a long-awaited Solo Banton / Disrupt collaboration that was released (and sold out rapidly) on 12”

No week is complete without a track from Soom T, so here’s something a little bit special for your Wednesday. It’s a collaboration between the Glasgow MC and Disrupt under the moniker The Source and was released last year on Soom’s own Renegade Masters label. It’s a little bit different to usual fare around here, and is even more obliquely related to dub. Disrupt lays an intense SID chip led fanfare platform for Soom to take her always sumptuous vocal too. Lovely stuff.

You can pick it up on 12” for £6.50 via Scotch Bonnet.

Here’s a cracking track from Bristol-based MC Ratface, who has put his vocals over the top of this fantastic Disrupt riddim. I’ve been a big fan of Ratface for years now, originally described as punk hop (a healthy mixture of punk and hip-hop), recently he’s been putting his lyrics to more diverse tunes, and he’s picked up the same passion for Jahtari as I have, which produces tracks as amazing as this.
