Since his recent 7” came out, I’ve been listening to London producer Tapes’ EP Hissing Theatricals, released through Jahtari in 2009.
Listen and like, and if you feel like it, you can pick up the 12” for £6 from Scotch Bonnet.

In case you missed it, here’s the latest compilation from the ever-fantastic Jahtari Records. It’s the third volume of Jahtarian Dubbers and features many of my favourites, including Mungo’s Hifi, Soom T and El Fata, as well as the legendary Lee Scratch Perry.
You can pick it up on LP from Norman Records for £10.89.
You can also pick up Jahtarian Dubbers Vol.2 for £11.59. Listen to it on Spotify.
The first volume is a little harder to pick up. The four track 12” sometimes appears on Discogs.com.
I don’t really need to explain this one. It’s Soom T’s last record Ode to a Carrot. Released on Jahtari at the beginning of last year, it is utterly sublime. Listen to it, love it, then pick it up for £14.49 from Norman Records.
I’m still in two minds about the ability to embed entire records through Spotify, on one hand, it opens up an entire world of music and makes my life a bit easier, it also pays the artists for the streams. On the other hand, not everyone can access Spotify, and that means not everyone can enjoy the sweet digidub love.
Regardless, I’m going to start trying it and seeing how we go, it’s nice that I can start promoting entire records and the artists get paid, so I’m going to put records up in full every Friday and apologise lots to those of you who can’t access it.
First up is the latest release from Jahtari - a long-awaited Solo Banton / Disrupt collaboration that was released (and sold out rapidly) on 12”
This is the opening track from Soom T’s fantastic Ode to the Carrot LP, released through Jahtari last year.
It’s a record entirely about Soom’s love of the herb, and is proudly supported by the Scottish Arts Council - which is clear by the massive logo on the back of the artwork.
You can still pick it up as well, the cheapest I’ve found the 2xLP is £14 from Scotch Bonnet
One of my favourite tracks ever, Solo Banton is arguably the best vocalist in the UK. I waxed lyrical about him earlier on the blog, but No is a track that shows him at the top of his game.
Again with a riddim by the ever-brilliant Maffi and released through Jahtari, No sets along a common theme in Solo’s lyrics - an ideology of ‘smoke weed, don’t take coke’. It’s fine advice, and along with ‘just say no to drugs (i.e. coke)’, the track also has Solo telling you to say No to raping women, molesting children and shooting people. Seriously, this guy should be President of the World.
